As you may well know, Walt Disney World has demolished Toontown to make room for a large, ambitious expansion to Fantasyland. The new Fantasyland area, scheduled to begin opening in 2012, will feature new dining opportunities themed around Beauty and the Beast, a new princess meet and greet location, a revamped "Double Dumbo" attraction, a rethemed Barnstormer kiddie coaster, and the Little Mermaid themed ride - Under the Sea - Journey of the Little Mermaid.
These will surely all be welcomed additions, but most of the listed attractions above aren't so much new as re-themed. The Little Mermaid ride looks very appealing, but it too loses a bit of luster if you take into consideration that it will simply be a twin of the same ride already open at Disney's California Adventure.
One other new attraction, however, is gathering an enormous amount of attention, speculation, and expectation - the Snow White themed Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. While there haven't been many particulars released yet, the concept art has looked very interesting, and we do know that the coaster will feature a truly unique aspect - according to Disney, the cars themselves will swing to and fro as they move along the track.
The following video (from the D23 expo) gives a fascinating look at the development process for those very coaster cars, from original design sketches, to redraws, to various models in varying states of functionality. This two minute video definitely gives the impression that Disney's Imagineers are hard at work - and enjoying the creation of something new and memorable for Walt Disney World.
