On May 1, 1989, Walt Disney world opened the doors of MGM Studios to the world. This massive and exciting adventure awaits the young, old, and everywhere in between. This Disney World theme park brings to life the wonderful world of radio, television, the silver screen and Broadway. MGM Studios also houses many of Disney’s television shows and movies in a 135-acre area of the theme park that is closed off to the general public.

MGM Studios is made up of 20 excellent and exciting attractions, 23 eateries, and 36 shopping areas for picking up souvenirs of your time within Walt Disney World and MGM Studios.

Mickey Avenue – Mickey Avenue has several favorites on the street named after everyone’s favorite mouse. Here you can experience a 35-minute Disney-MGM Studios Backlot tour, Who Wants to be a Millionaire, Journey into Narnia, The Great Movie Ride, and Walt Disney: One Man’s Dream.

Animation Courtyard – Here you will have the ability to experience Disney animation and how it works. Visit the Voyage of The Little Mermaid, The Magic of Disney Animation, and Playhouse Disney.

Streets of America – Here you can watch actor Drew Carey play the role of a detective in Sounds Dangerous. For fans of the unknown you can experience the Star Tours, Kermit fans can enjoy Muppet Vision 3-D, The Lights, Motors, Action stunt showand younger kids will enjoy the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids Adventure.

Echo Lake Area – Indiana Jones fans can visit the Epic Stunt Spectacular right here!

Sunset Boulevard – Cruise down the boulevard and take in the Beauty and the Beast live show, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, and Mickey’s Fantasmic show.


Making your way through MGM

MGM Studios does not offer much in the way of transportation around the theme park. Your best bet is to make sure you have a comfortable pair of shoes for the entire day. Another tip is to make sure you have a park map, this will tell you the times of certain events as well as where they are located within the park.

Throughout the day, there are character meetings you can meet your favorite characters like Mickey, Goofy, Lilo and Stitch, and many others. All character meets are placed on the maps, as well as the times.

The FASTPASS allows holders to move to the front of the line on specific rides without having to wait. These passes are issued for specific times and it is up to you to be at the ride during the one-hour frame of time you are given.

Top 10 Things to do at Disney MGM Studios

This is our take on the top 10 things that you absolutely must do while visiting the Disney MGM Studios theme park.

1. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith – This is an amazing roller coaster ride to the soundtrack of the classic group Aerosmith. The theme of this roller coaster is that you have to get Aerosmith to their Los Angeles concert on time! Ride in style in the limousine turned roller coaster soaring at the top speed of 60 MPH. This ride is equipped for a FASTPASS!

2. Fantasmic – This is your opportunity to watch everyone favorite mouse fight the evil villains. A must see before leaving the theme park, this intense firework, sound, and laser show takes place in MGM Studios Ampitheater. It is wise to arrive at the attraction about 45 minutes early to get a good seat.

3. Disney-MGM Studios Backlot Tour – This is another must see for all Disney-MGM Studio visitors. This fantastic tour gives some of the visitors a chance to see how movie effects really work. After the demonstration of special effects, you will get aboard a tram and are given a tour of the studios. You will even get to experience a earthquake, oil fire, and thunderstorm on the highlight of the tour during the Catastrophe Canyon portion.


4. The Great Movie Ride – This is an absolute must see for Disney movie lovers. This allows visitors to experience live scenes from some of their favorite Disney Movies. Movies such as, Casablanca, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Alien, Mary Poppins, Wizard of Oz, and Tarzan.

5. Lights, Motor, Action! Extreme Stunt Show – Housed on the Streets of America, this attraction allows stunt fans to see exact how stunts are done. Guests will enjoy seeing the stunts and then having each stunt explained in great detail as to how they are executed and choreographed.

6. Muppet Vision 3-D – Visit Kermit, Miss Piggy, and all of the rest of the muppet gang with this fantastic and stunning 3-D show. The muppets take you through the muppet lab with hilarious and some much expect muppet humor. After the show, you will have the ability to meet with some of your favorite and loveable muppet characters.

7. Twilight Zone Tower of Terror – Twilight Zone fans will absolute love this thrill ride. Located at the very end of Sunset Boulevard, this elevator drop is a 13 story plunge. As a guest of the Hollywood Tower Hotel, you will experience the true Twilight Zone with the do-do-do-do-do Music (Enough to scare most people’s socks off and you become a star in the show. Thrill ride seekers cannot miss this ride of a lifetime and FASTPASS is accepted!

8. Star Tours – Star Wars fans will delight in this thrill ride. Star tours is your guide to the planet Endor. All of the sudden you find yourself right dead smack in the middle of an intergalactic battle. Who will win the Empire or the Rebels? Wait times can be a little long, so time your visits to this thrill ride just right!

9. Who wants to be a Millionaire? – This is Disney’s own version of the popular ABC show. Here if you get into the hotseat, instead of playing for a Million dollars you are playing for fabulous prizes. The game is played on the Disney set, exactly as it is on the ABC show. If you get the million-dollar question, you will win a cruise for up to four people on Disney’s cruise line. FASTPASS is available for this attraction!

10. Disney-MGM Studios Parade – On a daily basis, MGM Studio puts on a parade of the Disney Stars. Enjoy seeing a variety of floats that contained characters to all your favorite Disney movies. You will be able to see stars such as, Hercules, Toy Story characters, Mulan, Mickey and all his friends, and 101 Dalmations.
