Disney's Animal Kingdom theme park is part of Disneyworld in Florida, and it first opened to visitors in April of 1998. This park boasts the largest land area of any other theme park in the entire world, with more than two square kilometers of space. The original intention, and continued mission of Disney was animal conservation.

Disney's advertisements refer to Animal Kingdom as being a world of animals, real, ancient and imagined. All of the park's attractions center around this premise.

Similar to Main Street U.S.A. in the Magic Kingdom park, Oasis is the entranceway into Animal Kingdom. All guests must pass through this series of pathways leading to the other areas within the park. The Oasis consists of several different pathways and animal habitats.

Discovery Island
Discovery Island is the largest section of Animal Kingdom. It is also located at the very center of the park, and offers guests the ability to travel to the other areas within the park.

Camp Mickey-Minnie
This small area within the park provides an area where guests can meet up with characters for photo opportunities and provides two shows throughout the year.

The theme of the Africa section of Animal Kingdom is the world of African safaris. Home to two major attractions, the Kilimanjaro Safaris and Pangani Forest Exploration Trail, Africa provides guests with an insight into the habitats of African animals.

Rafiki's Planet Watch
This section of the park was formerly known as conservation station, and it features small animals and a functional veterinary hospital. The area is accessible only by train.

In Asia, guests can go river rafting, trek through the jungle and ride a mountain train that goes through a secret passage.

DinoLand U.S.A.
Focusing on ancient animals, DinoLand present guests with a view into the world of prehistoric creatures.

Getting Around in Animal Kingdom
There is a train that will carry guests from one section of the park to another. As a matter of fact, you can only get to Planet Watch by train. Most of time, the best way to traverse this park is on foot, so get a good pair of walking shoes before embarking on this adventure!
