Many of us feel that a Walt Disney World vacation is something that is well outside of our grasp. For some, it has been equated with lifestyles of the rich and famous. Of course with the posh resorts and surroundings on the property, it is easy to forget that there is actually a world outside the realm of Disney, much less a town that offers excellent amenities and creature comforts at a fraction of the price for the most part. With careful planning, however, almost any budget can be accommodated in order to have that once in a lifetime Walt Disney World vacation experience. We all want the opportunity to give our children the best possible childhood and to have memories that they will carry with them for a lifetime; however, we can't all mortgage our homes in order to do so. Hear are some ideas on how you can give your child a vacation he or she will be talking about for years to come without maxxing out your credit cards in the process. If you live within a reasonable driving distance of Orlando, drive rather than fly. The cost of flying a family of four can be somewhat prohibitive, but driving is much easier to handle for most budgets. Just be sure that your car is in a decent state of repair and that you are up to date on all your regular maintenance. While driving, pack sandwiches, cereal bars, snacks, and drinks so that your stopping and (more importantly) spending is limited to maybe one meal per day of driving time and rest room breaks. Also share the driving so you can avoid staying overnight along the way if at all possible. If you are driving, or can find a hotel off the Disney properties that offers free shuttle service, stay somewhere else. You can save hundreds of dollars over the course of a week quite easily by staying in a budget hotel a short drive from the Disney properties. Be sure that the hotel you choose has a microwave and refrigerator - this way you can stock up on breakfast food, snacks, bottled water, and other drinks. Also, by eating breakfast in your room each morning rather than eating out you can save a great deal of money. Freezing bottles of water overnight and bringing them to Walt Disney World with you can save a lot of money on drinks as well. 2 dollars or more per drink on the property can add up very quickly in a short amount of time for the normal family of four, and if you have more than that it can get quite ridiculous. Bring bottles of water with you and put several in a locker, any locker fees you may incur are worth it in the money you will save by having your own water. If at all possible, try not to eat more than one meal a day on the property (I recommend lunch). This will save a great deal of money as well as providing you a little down time away from lights and sounds of Disney World. Use your imagination to discover ways you can cut costs during your vacation, you might find that you are amazed at how fun this particular challenge can be. Also, find creative ways to save a little "made" money for your trip as well. A trip to Walt Disney World isn't for the children alone, this is your trip to so make sure that you can enjoy something special on this trip too. Remember, the trip of a lifetime doesn't have to take a lifetime to fund. Have fun and be frugal, you might be surprised at how much fun you can have on a dime.
