Future World at Epcot offers Fun for Everyone

Rating: rating is 5 out of 5 for Future World at Epcot offers Fun for Everyone (9 votes)

To some degree, Epcot is the opposite of the rest of Walt Disney World. Where Disney is about magic and make believe, Epcot is about education and invention. Epcot employs cutting edge technology and offers inspiration of its visitors to achieve great things through science and technology.

Perhaps the greatest thing about Epcot is its ability to entertain visitors in the process of educating them. Epcot is so large that it would be nearly impossible to enjoy all of the attractions in a single day, especially if you are tugging along reluctant children (big and small) who would rather stay and play at one attraction rather than keeping the party moving along.

I know that sometimes the big kids (I mean dads) have as much, if not more fun than the younger children in Epcot, keep in mind that younger children may bore easily so be sure to schedule things that will appeal to them during the process rather than overlooking their expanding minds and diminished attention spans.

Epcot is divided into two primary areas: Future World, which offers a unique view of technology and the impact it has had in the past, continues to have today, and eventually will have on the world; and World Showcase, which gives visitors an opportunity to experience the sights, sounds, smells, and foods of different cultures. I could spend my entire Walt Disney World vacation in the World Showcase area of Epcot if it were entirely up to me, however the allure of Mickey, Minnie, and Tinkerbell, means my time her is an afterthought for the rest of the family and usually a part of the trip that we get around to if we don’t run out of time.

Let’s take a little time to introduce some of the pavilions available at Future World, I seriously recommend choosing the ones that you and your family wish to attend and skipping those that you do not find as appealing since this is such a large park. I also recommend mapping your route and planning meals and such according to where you plan to be at mealtime and what is close to that area.

Spaceship Earth Pavilion. This is a popular attraction so be prepared for long lines. This attraction takes visitors back to the dawn of time and into the future as well. It is one attraction that has something to offer most members of the family and has become a favorite among visitors since its opening.

Innoventions Pavilion. This pavilion is a hands on area that lets you dig in and play with all kinds of gadgets and toys. This particular pavilion is fun for all ages; it even has Fantastic Plastics Works where kids can make their own robot to take home with them. This is definitely a must see, especially if you have little ones on your trip.

The Living Seas Pavilion offers a glimpse of what life is like under the sea. You must make time if you have little ones in tow for Turtle talk with Crush. This show features real time animation and will be a highlight of your children’s trip to Epcot, if not Disney altogether.

The Land Pavilion offers all you ever wanted to know about food. If you have a child between the ages of 6 and 11 that likes to cook you may want to see if there’s room for your young chef to be a Junior Chef in the Toll House Story. There are a limited number of positions and this is only offered 5 times a day so check the times and make plans to be there. The kids do get to keep their chefs hat, which is really cool for them.

Imagination Pavilion lives up to its name. You are encouraged to run and jump and have lots fun in this interactive area.

Universe Energy Pavilion. Ever wonder what the Big Bang sounded like? This is the place to find out. This adventure is narrated by the hilarious Ellen Degeneres so sit back and be prepared for one wild ride through time and space.

Wonders of Life Pavilion. This is a favorite of smaller children. The Cranium Command will have you in stitches as it tells the tale of an atypical day in the life of a boy. (This pavilion may close during off seasons.)

Mission: SPACE Pavilion. If you have an aspiring astronaut in the family this is the can’t miss mission of Epcot. Be sure to check out the JAMMitors for a little musical interlude into your day.

Test Track Pavilion. This is the place to be for the speed demon in the family. In my family that would be me. This wild ride gives you a tiny glimpse of what it feels like to make those high-speed hairpin turns you might find at your favorite racetrack.

While this has been a brief explanation of the various pavilions of Epcot, I hope this has helped you decide which attractions you are most interested in. Remember this is a journey, not a race! Take your time and enjoy the attractions that appeal to you and take in the others if you have the time.
