Are you an adventurous soul? Do you like learning about new cultures and trying new dishes, treats, music, and dances? If this describes you, then you are a prime candidate to completely enjoy a day at Epcot’s World Showcase. Really and truly I recommend getting a season pass and staying for a couple of weeks just so that you can taste the dishes of every country at least once without having to stuff yourself in order to make room.
You’ll see what I mean as you walk through and inhale the wonderful smells of food from around the world. Then, of course there is the music, art, singing, dancing, crafts, and information about these same countries. It’s a small introduction to cultures from around the world.
Learning about people from far away places has always fascinated me. I’ve never had the luxury of traveling outside the continental U.S. so Epcot’s World Showcase is definitely a highlight for any Walt Disney World Vacation. In fact, for me it is the most enjoyable part. It isn’t that I don’t like watching my kids have fun with the characters and on the rides or my husband having fun trying to figure out how to sneak all the cool gadgets from future world home, but the World Showcase, is kind of ‘my’ area. It’s the one place that I most look forward to for the sheer glimpse into places I’ll probably never go.
Here is a brief description of the World Showcase Pavilions of Disney’s Epcot and if you are going to try one of the cuisines, I recommend lunch. You get to try a world cuisine for a much smaller price than a dinner and you may have room to try a dessert a few pavilions down.
Mexico Pavilion. Obviously the pavilions showcase the culture of the countries they are named for, but each one has a special attraction that is definitely worth checking out. The Mexico Pavilion has two really engaging attractions. One is El Rio de Tempo, which means The River of Time and the other is the Mariachi Cobre. Enjoy the sites and sounds of this great attraction.
Norway Pavilion. Features of this pavilion are Maelstrom, which is a boat ride that takes you on a journey through the culture and heritage of Norway. Also take time to enjoy the Scandinavian music that you will find throughout this attraction.
China Pavilion. Enjoy the sights, sounds, and cuisine of China in this beautiful area of Epcot. Make sure you make the time to see the Dragon Legend Acrobats and if you are hungry try out the Nine Dragons Restaurant.
Germany Pavilion. This pavilion is right out of a storybook. With quaint little shops, a daily wine tasting, baked goods, and music and dance this is a family favorite. Be sure to check out Der Teddybar, a toy store that young and old will enjoy.
Italy Pavilion. For a taste of Italy that goes well beyond food the Italian Pavilion provides entertainment, beauty, art, laughter, and excellent food.
U.S.A. Pavilion. This pavilion offers entertainment and education that even Americans will benefit from. Take a walk through the history of our great country and listen to the music of the American Revolution.
Japan Pavilion. This area offers the serene beauty that has become synonymous with Japan around the world. You will also find shops that sell clothing, tin toys, and bonsai trees. Be sure to check out the candy art of Miyuki whether you keep her art as a keepsake or enjoy it as a treat it is truly a memorable experience. If you are hungry there is a lot of great food to be had in this pavilion so enjoy!
Morocco Pavilion. This is definitely a tale of two cities. This pavilion is divided into the New City and the Old City. If you haven’t eaten by now, may I suggest dining at Restaurant Marrakesh, which features excellent Moroccan fare while entertaining guests with belly dancing.
France Pavilion. If you’ve ever wanted to climb the Eiffel Tower, ride a hot air balloon over the French countryside, or race cars in Cannes, then this is the place for you. While you’re there be sure to grab a pastry from the Boulangerie Patisserie.
United Kingdom Pavilion. Take a walk through a charming English village of times long ago. While you’re there be sure to check out the many shops where you can find toys, clothing, and perfumes. If you’re thirsty, be sure to have a stop in at the Rose and Crown Pub.
Canada Pavilion. For a touch of nature, take in what Canada has to offer. Enjoy the art and toys that you can find in the shops here as well as a steak that is worth heading north for at Le Cellier Steakhouse, while this may be a little pricey, it is very well worth of every penny.
As I’ve said before, the World Showcase is my absolute favorite part of any Walt Disney World vacation. Where else on earth can you take a trip around the world in 12 hours with time to stop and sample the sights, sounds, and tastes along the way? Not to mention the fact that you get to end the day with a brilliant light show. There is a little something for everyone here, so enjoy the day!
